The video I found for this week is showing how these two children are coming together to play a game. It is quite obvious to me that either they watched something or heard/saw something that would influence them in this way. Even something as simple as playing firefighter can show that the way children are raised in their environment will help them to act and do the things that they will in their every day life. Growing up in a home where my dad, brothers and even my uncles and cousins are firefighters helps me to personally relate more to these children in the video. As a child growing up with firefighters, EMT's and nurses always around me it really influenced me to act the way I would when I was around others and to always help those in need even if (as a child) I really didn't like them. Children are influenced by everything around them and I think that this is a good example of how a positive influence can have a very positive outcome. To watch the video please click here

  1. This video clip gave me a different point of view in childhood socialization. Seeing average children playing one of the many "grown up" roles showed me how easily an infant can be influenced. Your topic is quite interesting because as teenagers many of us have either taken on the role as big sister, babysitter, or cousin. Reading your posts gave me a look on how quickly children pick up on their surroundings. They are actually quite smart as innocent as they look. In the future you might also find an interest in researching how children's social life maybe affected when their parent's remarry. Good job so far Mary Kate!

  2. I love this video! After watching the video, I really understand how easily children can be influenced. Kids are mostly around their parents and if their parents do negative things, the children will most likely follow in their footsteps. I strongly believe we need to always do the right thing in front of your children. I know parents can't always do this, but I do believe there is no excuse to hit your wife or smoke right in front of your kid. I agree with you that not only the parents influence the children, Uncles, Aunts, siblings etc. influence them as well. Basically anyone in the child's life impact them. Thanks for posting this video Marykate!

  3. I agree that this video is great!! It shows how just by children seeing other people act a certain way it can influence they way they act in a big way. But just as children pick up good influences they can also pick up bad ones. Parents and anyone in the children's lives need to be aware of that because something that influences them when their young can stick with them for life. Children are obviously smarter than people may think and are always picking up things from there surroundings. This video was a perfect way of showing this!!

  4. Children are extremely influenced by the world around them. Ways adults or their older sibling act have a huge impact on children of all ages because they recognize that that is the way to act. Children look up to people of authority as role models, I know I did when I was younger! This video really portrays how children mimic the people around them. Great vid Mary Kate! :)
